COTTAGEVILLE :     Carl Wayne Wagener, husband of Vivian Darlene Browning Wagener, passed away Saturday evening, January 23, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  He was 55.

Wayne was born in Walterboro August 18, 1965 a son of Carl Wagener and the late Miriam Llewellyn "Pinky" Bailey Wagener.  He worked for 15 years for the South Carolina Department of Transportation, retiring as a crew chief in Saint George for medical reasons.  Wayne was blessed to be able to receive a heart transplant in 2001, and because of that, was able to enjoy the last twenty years of his life with his family, and watch his children become adults.

Wayne was a Third Degree Mason, and had served as Past Master  of the Round Lodge #270 in Cottageville.  He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, and was an honorary member of the Smoaks Hunting Club.  Wayne was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed a simple life on his farm with his animals by his side.  He was a devoted son, husband and father.

In addition to his father, and his wife of twenty-one years, he is survived by his two children John Wayne Wagener and Brittany Christine Wagener.

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday morning, January 28, 2021 at 11:00 at the Bedon Baptist Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
