ROUND O: Dr. William K. "Billy" Dodd Sr., husband of Mary Jo Williams Dodd, passed away at his home February 3, 2017 after a brief illness. He was 84.

Dr. Dodd was born in Round O September 3, 1932 a son of the late J.K. "Keel" Dodd Sr. and Martha Hood Dodd. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and graduated from Clemson College in 1959. He received his Doctorate from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1963, interned at Spartanburg Medical for two years, and then began his private practice in North Charleston. He retired in 2001 after over 40 years of dedicated service to his patients. He was a member of the Park Circle Presbyterian Church in North Charleston.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a son, Ken Dodd of North Charleston. There are two grandchildren, Kennedy Dodd and Meryl Dodd O'Donald (Austin), as well as four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Dodd, and Phoebe, Gus, and Carey Anne O'Donald. He has one brother, Boyd H. Dodd (Harriette) of Round O, and two sisters-in-law, Erie Dodd of Round O, and Betty Sue Wilson (Bill) of Walterboro. He was preceded in death by three sons, Keel, John II, and Billy Dodd, by his grandson William "Will" Dodd, and by his daughter-in-law Sheila Dodd. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: John Hood Dodd, Joe K. Dodd, Margaret Hulsey, and Edith Dodd. He leaves behind a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.


Dr. Dodd was laid to rest in the Dodd family plot at the Fox Cemetery near Round O. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro was in charge of arrangements.
