Obituary

Mr. William Bryan Richardson of Walterboro departed this life Friday evening, June 22, 2018 after a long bout with Parkinson's Disease.  A son of the late David Lewis Richardson and Mary Louise Carter Richardson of Summerville, he was born December 9, 1949 in Colleton County.  He attended Old Pinewood School on South Main Street, and graduated from Summerville High School in 1968.  He received his undergraduate degree from Wofford College, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and his Master's degree in English from the University of South Carolina in 1976.  He worked as a pharmaceutical representative for Reid-Howell and as an educator in various positions at Trident Technical College, the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, and for Colleton County and Dorchester District II schools.

He married the former Eve Ackerman of Walterboro in 1976 and was the father of two sons:  William Bryan Richardson, Jr. and Riddick Smith Richardson (Ashley) and the grandfather of three granddaughters:  Kathryn Channing Richardson, Sophie Elizabeth Richardson, and Catherine Smith Richardson, all of Columbia.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He was a member of St. Jude's Episcopal Church where he had served as a member of the Vestry and Junior Warden.  He was an avid supporter of the Gamecocks football team and attended as many games as possible before his health declined.  He was a lifelong learner and enjoyed his membership at the Colleton County Library over the years.

In addition to his wife, sons and granddaughters, he is survived by a brother Dr. David Lewis Richardson, Jr. and sister Susan Richardson Dion, both of Summerville, a brother-in-law Dr. Riddick Ackerman III of Walterboro, and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, W. Wyman Carter and Essie Bryan Carter of Walterboro, and William Holt Richardson and Annie Reade Lewis Richardson of Raleigh, as well as his aunts and uncles.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, June 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Skardon Hall at St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Walterboro.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
